The New York Knicks rode a late-game surge to steal Game 1 of the NBA Finals on the road, defeating the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 on Thursday (PH time) at the Frost Bank Center.
The Spurs capitalized on their home-court advantage early, starting hot and controlling the tempo throughout the first half. However, the Knicks methodically chipped away at the deficit, eventually tying the game at 76-all to set up a tense fourth quarter.
The final minutes turned into a back-and-forth affair as both teams traded crucial baskets. With under two minutes remaining and the Knicks trailing by one, Jalen Brunson hit a go-ahead three-pointer to put New York up 97-95.
Mikal Bridges extended the lead with two clutch free throws on the following possession, and Brunson followed up with a 14-foot jumper to put the game out of reach.OG Anunoby added two more free throws with 29 seconds left to secure the 10-point victory.
