Gilas Pilipinas emerged victorious over Vietnam, 21-15, in its opening match in the 3x3 tournament of the 33rd Southeast Asian Games 2025 this Wednesday at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Filipino squad, manned by Ange Kouame, Janrey Pasaol, Joseph Eriobu, and Joseph Sedurifa, hurdled an early scoring advantage for Vietnam during the 10-minute showdown in Group B of the tournament.
With just two minutes remaining in the clash, Eriobu shocked the Vietnamese side to make it a 13-all affair. From here, Gilas refused to relinquish the momentum en route to the win.
The Philippine team will face Malaysia next before a meeting with Indonesia on Thursday, December 11. Eriobu and Sedurifa were members of the 2023 team who hauled a silver medal in the 3x3 event of the biennial meet last held in Cambodia.
