Giannis Antetokounmpo sent shockwaves through the sporting world when he deleted all of the Milwaukee Bucks content from his social media pages, apart from photos of his title wins in the NBA Finals and NBA Cup. A recent calf injury has left fans wondering if Antetokounmpo has played his final game for the Bucks, with rumors swirling that the former MVP is looking for a move ahead of the trade deadline.
Here are three NBA teams with the pieces to make a play for the Greek Freak via trade.
New York Knicks
The NBA would love to see the Knicks acquire Antetokounmpo as this would put one of the league’s best players in the United States’ biggest market. The former MVP was already linked with a move to New York during the offseason, reportedly listing the Knicks as one team he was open to playing for outside of Milwaukee.
The Knicks could offer a package featuring Karl-Anthony Towns and either Mikal Bridges or OG Anunoby to entice the Bucks with their Giannis offer. New York will also have to surrender some of its future first-round picks for an opportunity to pair Giannis with Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson.
San Antonio Spurs
If the San Antonio Spurs want to accelerate their championship window, trading for Antetokounmpo is the way to go. Giannis teaming up with generational talent Victor Wembanyama would be a treat for San Antonio fans and a nightmare for opposing teams.
Among the players the Spurs could trade for Antetokounmpo in a swap with Milwaukee are rookie guard Dylan Harper and wing player Devin Vassell. Stephon Castle and San Antonio’s future draft picks might also be included in trade discussions for the Greek star.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers shocked fans when they acquired Slovenian forward Luka Doncic in a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks earlier this year. The Lakers could add another European star to their lineup if they decide to engage in trade talks with the Milwaukee Bucks for Antetokounmpo.
The Lakers’ trade package will be built around Austin Reaves, who has been playing exceptional basketball this season. He has scored at least 40 points thrice this campaign, including a 44-point explosion in the Lakers’ last game against the Toronto Raptors. Rui Hachimura and Gabe Vincent’s expiring contracts will be crucial to make the math work in a Giannis trade.
