Former NBA big man Elden Campbell has died at the age of 57 according to the Los Angeles Times. He suited up for 15 seasons in the NBA, the majority of which he played for the Lakers. The cause of death is yet to be disclosed.
The 6-foot-11 center, who was selected by the Lakers in the first round of the 1990 NBA Draft, averaged 10.3 points and 5.9 boards over his professional career.
He managed to win a championship before the end of his career, helping the Detroit Pistons capture the title against Los Angeles Lakers in the 2004 NBA Finals.
Campbell was tasked to guard Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal in that championship series, averaging 3.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists for Detroit over five games.
Campbell had earlier played with O’Neal and Kobe Bryant during his time with the Lakers, averaging 14.9 points per game in the 1996-97 season.
