Dean Michael Roxas and Kimberly Ann Custodio grappled their way to a gold medal in the final rounds of the ne-waza men's 85-kilogram and women’s 48kg in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games this Thursday at Navaminda Kasatriyadhiraj Air Force Academy in Thailand.
Custodio is the only member of the Filipina jiu-jitsu squad to reach the final round after Annie Ramirez and Kaila Napolis failed to clinch a spot in the finals. Ramirez settled for bronze while health regulations prevented Napolis from competing further after she lost consciousness in her match against Malaysia’s Wong Joelle Ai.
Roxas ruled the men's category through a unanimous win over Aacus Ee Hou Yu of Singapore.
