JUSTIN Brownlee is missing in action.
Sources told SPIN.ph that the resident Barangay Ginebra import cannot be reached until now by the Meralco Bolts, who have tapped the three-time PBA best import as its naturalized player for the EASL Home and Away season.
“Hindi makontak, walang may alam nasaan siya?” said a Meralco source who requested anonymity.
Meralco's season debut against the Ryukyu Golden Kings was supposed to be higlighted by the dream import team-up of Brownlee and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.
Instead, the Bolts showed up with only Jefferson alongside a second foreign import in 6-9 Puerto Rican center Ismael Romero. The Philippine representative ended up losing, 81-72, despite RHJ's 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
“No choice na kami. We have been contacting him kaso wala,” said the source.
With Meralco's next EASL match against the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots of Chinese-Taipei just days away, the Bolts have also tapped the services of Hollis-Jefferson’s brother Rahlir after an injury to Romero.
Asked if Ginebra or SMC management would have intervened in the plan, the Meralco official shook his head.
“No, no, definitely not. We already have their consent even before reports that he (Brownlee) will play for us was reported online,” he said.

Another source bared that even Ginebra officials are similarly at a loss about the whereabouts of their 37-year old import.
“Wala di rin makontak ng mga bossing ilang araw na. Wala naman dapat problema,” he said.
