FIVE games with his new team and Jerrick Ahanmisi looked totally comfortable being the number one option for Terrafirma.
Unfortunately, the wins are few and far between.
Ahanmisi stood at the forefront of the fiery third-quarter rally from the Dyip which unfortunately fell short as the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters 106-91 on Friday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The 28-year-old fired 11 of his 25 points in the third quarter, most of which came in the massive 20-2 run which overturned a 17-point lead before they ran out of bullets in the end.
“We kind of lost a little bit of fight in the fourth quarter. It was also Rain or Shine hitting a lot of threes and a lot of and-ones too and we missed a lot of rebounds,” said Ahanamisi, who arrived from Magnolia in a trade for Javi Gomez de Liano.
“It’s just something that we need to learn from, watch film about and hopefully bring what we learn from this game to the next game.”
Still, Ahanmisi is confident that the wins will come for the Dyip especially after showing plenty of fight in their last two games – competing against his former team Magnolia and Rain or Shine only to fall short in the end.
“I really believe that our team can compete against any team in the league. I think it’s just more about us believing in ourselves and believing that we can compete with any team,” he said.
In five games, Ahanmisi is averaging 18.2 points per game as the main man of the Dyip. It’s a totally different role from his time with Magnolia where he certainly had moments as the Hotshots’ designated shooter, but was way behind the pecking order when it comes to their offense.
The former Adamson star says it wasn’t easy transitioning considering the work that he puts in, and the support that his teammates and coaches have given him.
“It’s more of the confidence that comes from the work I put in everyday and then also from my coaches and my teammates cause if I believe in myself first and foremost, it trickles down to my coaches and my teammates believing in me,” he said.
“I just got to keep believing that every game I can help my team win and put my team in a position to get a win.”
