Lastimosa tows Magnolia past Phoenix image

Magnolia won over Phoenix, 83-80, last Friday in the Philippine Basketball Association 50th Season Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center-Antipolo.

Jerom Lastimosa powered the Hotshots to victory with 14 points and seven rebounds to go up with a 4-1 win-loss record, joining TNT, NLEX, and Rain or Shine on top of the team standings.

Lastimosa also drained two free throws with 15 seconds left after Phoenix came to within one points, 81-80, on a four-point shot by RR Garcia.

Ian Sangalang finished with 11 points and six rebounds, and Zavier Lucero had 10 points and five rebounds for Magnolia.

Magnolia beat Terrafirma, 104-93, last Saturday in its previous game before the Phoenix match-up.

Magnolia gets a severe test when it goes up against reigning champion San Miguel on November 7 at the Ynares Center-Montalban.

Jason Perkins had 19 points for Phoenix, which never led in the game and was down by as many as 14 points.

Phoenix was beaten by Converge, 128-114, last Saturday in its previous match-up at the Ynares Center-Antipolo.

The Fuelmasters’ next outing will be against Rain or Shine on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
