Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has announced his intention to call up Ederson to replace Wesley in his 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

Wesley was forced off injured during Brazil’s 2-1 friendly win over Egypt on Saturday. Subsequent tests confirmed a left thigh muscle strain, ruling the Roma wing-back out of the finals.

"The CBF regrets the injury. Wesley is a player much loved by the team and will always be considered an integral part of this squad as it aims for its sixth World Cup title," an official statement from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) read on Sunday.

Pending confirmation, Atalanta midfielder Ederson will join the team at their training camp in New York and New Jersey, USA on Monday.

Ederson, 26, has won three senior caps to date, with just one start – almost two years ago in a friendly against Mexico. He joins a list of over 60 Serie A-based players at the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

Brazil kick off their World Cup campaign in Group C against Morocco on 13 June, before facing Haiti (19 June) and Scotland (24 June).
