Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao rued the inability of his team to shoot the threes on a consistent basis during Game 2 of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) 50 Commissioner’s Cup last Friday.
The Elasto Painters made 10 threes but shot just 24 percent from that spot in their 109-101 loss to the Gin Kings. On the other hand, Barangay Ginebra made 10 threes - in the first half - and shooting at a 50 percent rate.
Ginebra ended up finishing the game with a 12-of-34 clip from three-point range.
Rain or Shine made a comeback from 24 points down, but chopped it down to 101-97 in the fourth quarter only to fall short.
“Our effort was a little bit late. It was in the fourth quarter where our energy came. Ginebra also shot really well in the first quarter. They had 10-of-20 and we weren’t able to match it,” said Guiao in Filipino.
Game 3 is on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena where Guiao is also hoping to find answers to Justin Brownlee and RJ Abarrientos. Brownlee had 32 points, and Abarrientos had 21 points on 5-of-14 from threes in the Gin Kings’ win.
“We have to find a solution to those guys. I think they create a lot of opportunities not only for themselves because when we compensate on defense, their teammates get open,” Guiao added.
