Alex Eala will not compete in this week’s Catalonia Open. The Filipina tennis star has officially withdrawn from the WTA 125 event, after her name was absent from the 32-player main draw released on Monday (PH time).
Eala was originally in the players list for the tournament, set to take place from April 27 to May 3 at Club de Tennis La Bisbal Centre Esportiu in La Bisbal d’Empordà, Spain. The Quezon City native was eligible to play in this event after she suffered an early exit at the Madrid Open, losing heavily to Elise Mertens in the second round.

Eala opted to skip this tournament, though, preferring to take some rest before resuming her clay campaign at the Italian Open next week. Eala has had a rough start to her clay swing, going 2-3 in her matches thus far on the red dirt this season.
