Drex Zamboanga has voiced concern for fellow Filipinos residing in the Middle East as regional tensions continue to escalate.
Hostilities intensified after a February 28 operation led by the United States and Israel against Iran, following stalled negotiations over Tehran’s alleged nuclear program.
What initially appeared to be a targeted strike has since evolved into a wider conflict, with multiple nations affected and continued bombardment reported in several Iranian cities.
The situation has placed many civilians at risk, including a large number of overseas Filipino workers.
Zamboanga, who recently joined the Bahrain-based BRAVE Combat Federation in February 2025, said the developments hit close to home given his connection to the region.
“I offer my prayers to every Filipino affected,” he stated in an interview with Filipino combat sports journalist Nissi Icasiano.
Data estimates place the Filipino population in the Middle East between 2.1 and 2.4 million, with a strong presence in countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
Many are employed across key sectors that support local economies.
Amid ongoing instability, reports indicate that approximately 86,000 Filipinos are in locations under heightened alert.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, with potential evacuation efforts being considered if conditions worsen.
For Zamboanga, the unfolding crisis underscores the vulnerability of migrant communities caught in geopolitical conflict as uncertainty continues to grip the region.
“May God grant them comfort, protection, and strength in these uncertain times,” he expressed.
