Alex Eala gave Filipino fans something to cheer about on Thursday morning, trouncing Petra Marcinko 6-0, 6-2 in their 2026 ASB Classic round of 16 clash at the ASB Tennis Centre in Auckland, New Zealand.
Eala made short work of her unseeded opponent, needing just one hour and three minutes to record the straight-sets victory over Marcinko.
The Filipina tennis star stamped her class in the opening set, breaking Marcinko’s serve three times to grab the bagel in 22 minutes.
Eala continued her dominance in the second set, erasing an early deficit to complete the rout. The 20-year-old Quezon City native will next face the winner of the second-round showdown between Magda Linette and Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the quarterfinals.
