The Portland Trail Blazers snapped the Boston Celtics’ four-game winning streak with a hard-fought 114-108 victory on Monday morning (PH time) at Moda Center.
The contest stayed tight throughout, featuring 10 deadlocks and 11 lead changes as neither side could fully seize control.
Leading by just a single point with under two minutes remaining, Shaedon Sharpe came up with a crucial steal to earn a trip to the free throw line. He split his attempts, keeping the game a one-possession affair.
On the ensuing possession, Jaylen Brown was whistled for a backcourt violation, and Deni Avdija capitalized by attacking the rim for an easy deuce. Derrick White quickly responded with a triple to trim the deficit back to one at 108-109.
Avdija then tried to put the visitors away with a three but came up empty. Portland got a fortunate break when Donovan Clingan grabbed the offensive rebound and converted an and-one on the putback.
With 21 seconds left, a miscommunication between White and Brown on the inbounds pass proved costly, as the ball sailed out of reach and sealed the win for the Trail Blazers.
Sharpe led Portland with 26 points, while Avdija added 24. Toumani Camara chipped in 20, and Clingan and Caleb Love each finished with 18.
Brown led the way for Boston, scoring 37 points on 14-of-23 shooting. It was the Celtics star’s ninth-straight 30-point game.
