The Utah Jazz snapped San Antonio Spurs' eight-game winning streak, pulling off a 127-114 stunner on Sunday (PH time) at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio
Victor Wembanyama returned to the starting lineup after recovering from his calf injury, while De'Aaron Fox remained sidelined.
The opening quarter was an offensive showcase, with the Spurs firing on all cylinders and exploding for 40 points to build an early lead. However, the game turned in the second period when Jazz backup guard Walter Clayton Jr. came off the bench and delivered a perfect 4-for-4 shooting performance, scoring 11 points and dishing out 3 assists to fuel a dominant 38–20 run that put Utah in front.
The Spurs fought back in the fourth quarter, using a 14–2 stretch to tie the game, but the Jazz responded with a flurry of timely three-pointers, as Utah pulled off an upset victory to extend their winning streak to two games and end the Spurs' eight-game regular-season winning streak (NBA Cup finals are not counted in regular-season statistics).
For the Jazz, Lauri Markkanen led the team with 29 points, while guard Keyonte George added 28 points and 6 assists. Five Utah players scored in double figures in a balanced effort.
On the Spurs’ side, Victor Wembanyama finished with a game-high 32 points and 5 blocks in a losing effort, while forward Keldon Johnson contributed a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds.
Up next, the Spurs will host the Cleveland Cavaliers on December 30, while the Jazz will welcome the Boston Celtics at home on December 31.
