Reversing a near-defeat into victory is no easy feat, according to Alsson "Sanji" Pabico, following the national team's 4-0 sweep of Malaysia in the men's Mobile Legends in the Southeast Asian Games this Wednesday at Sala Phra Kieo, Chulalongkorn University.
In a press conference, Pabico admitted that Game 3 was a pivotal moment for Sibol Pilipinas after the Malaysians managed to push their lanes back as far as the third tower.
At the 16:08 mark, Malaysia led the game with 18 kills on top of 51K golds against the Philippines' eight and 48.1K, respectively.
But a masterful lord steal from Karl "KarlTzy" Nepomuceno on Lancelot turned the tide in favor of the Filipinos as Kiel "Oheb" Soriano on Granger kill two in the same clash.
“We were talking how we really weren't ready for the team fight yet. We just defended first. Malaysia just made a mistake,” said Pabico, who picked Pharsa for Game 3.
Game 4 played out no different in the first three games as the Philippines secured its 4th-straight crown in the men's division of the eSports tournament first introduced in the 2019 edition of the biennial meet.
Meanwhile, Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino said the Sibol women's team has their full backing as they aim to improve their 2023 silver finish into a gold medal.
