Five-division world champion Terence Crawford has announced his retirement from professional boxing at 38 years old.

The only fighter in the four-belt era to win undisputed titles in three weight classes, Crawford exits the sport with a perfect record of 42-0 with 31 knockouts.

“Every fighter knows this moment will come. We just never know when,” Crawford announced on social media.

“I gave the sport everything I had. I made peace with what's next. Now, it's time.”

The announcement comes just three months after Crawford defeated Mexican superstar Saul Alvarez via decision to claim the undisputed super middleweight title, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of his generation.

While his competitive career has come to a close, Crawford left the door open for future involvement in the sport.

“This is not goodbye, it's just the end of one fight, and the beginning of another,” he quipped.
