Zyra Bon-as delivered another gold medal for the Philippines after edging hometown favorite Jantakarn Manoban in a tightly contested kickboxing final on Tuesday in the ongoing Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
The 24-year-old fighter from Baguio City prevailed via a closesly contested 2-1 decision in the women’s 48-kilogram low kick final, outlasting the Thai bet in a bout that went down to the wire.
Moments after the final exchange, an emotional Bon-as was seen asking, “Am I pretty?” as she awaited the judges’ verdict before being declared the winner.
This marked Bon-as’ second appearance in the biennial meet. She previously competed in the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, where she settled for a bronze medal in the 51kg Kun Khmer event.
Her victory raised the Philippines’ gold medal haul to 27 in this year’s SEA Games.
