Filipino-Canadian swimmer Kayla Sanchez collected three golds and five silver medals, the most so far out of the historic 1,600-strong Philippine delegate sent to Thailand to compete in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.

In five days, the two-time Olympic medalist stormed the pools with three golds in the women's 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, and 50m freestyle events, in addition to the three silver medals from the 50m backstroke, 200m freestyle, and 4x200m events.

She closed her medal run on a high note with a silver medal finish in the 4x100m medley with teammates Miranda Renner, Xiandi Chua, and Heather White on Monday at the SAT Swimming Pool in Thailand.

With only four days remaining in the biennial meet, Sanchez is on pace to become the most decorated Filipino athlete in the regional tournament.

In the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games, hurdler Eric Cray claimed the honor of being the most-medalled Filipino athlete with eight medals.

Some of the most successful Filipino athletes in SEA Games history include Lydia de Vega (athletics), Elma Muros (athletics), Paeng Nepomuceno (bowling), Eric Buhain (swimming), and Carlos Yulo (gymnastics).
